Dammit Alex. I tried to say my prayers so I could go to bed, and I've got nothing but Star Wars in my brain now! I have papers to write about non-Star Wars things, too!
I'm going to add here that the phrase "the Jedi don't trust themselves to be heroes" is amazing and I never really thought of them that way. Perhaps all of their fundamental moral flaws/failings can be traced back to this one quiet problem? See, I love the Jedi's philosophy, and that makes up for their occasional immoral actions.
But then I started thinking about Knights of the Old Republic. They capture Revan (pardon spelling if I'm a bit off on vowel placement), repurpose him/her to their cause, and conceal that fact. Practically, it makes sense! But it betrays a philosophic weakness: they believe that they will lose the war without committing to this exact long-shot gamble, complete with manipulation of the very person they hope to be saved by! They don't, in fact, have any faith that their cause will ultimately be victorious. That lack of faith might account for a great deal of their behavior.
So, with complete sincerity, I thank you for your Star Wars commentary, Alex. I just hope I can go to bed now, with all this rattling around my head.
