Friday I woke up at 7:30 to hit the gym. This will become relevant shortly. After the gym I ran errands, took care of some things around the house, and went to work around 3:00. Work was productive with both my west coast swing routine finally reaching acceptable performance levels as well as solving one of the remaining Big Problems for my VBA Excel project. I got off work about 10:15 and got home around 10:45.

At 11:15 PM I got a call. It was from my sister. While she was biking home from a show she was hit by a hit and run driver. An ambulance was on the way and she didn't know what hospital they were going to take her to. I only had a rough concept of the area of the city she was in. I instantly got in the car and headed downtown, not knowing where or even how I'd find her.

Through a series of phone calls to various health groups I eventually found the hospital my sister was in, getting to her somewhere around midnight with her boyfriend arriving shortly thereafter. She was in bad shape but conscious. They didn't think she had a concussion, though they weren't yet sure, and they didn't know about broken bones, including possibly her neck or spine. The next few hours were filled with x-rays, CT scans, and stitches. The good news is there was no concussion, there were no broken bones, and all her wounds were treatable. She was finally cleared to leave about 6:15 AM. I dropped her off at home about 6:45 and got back to my house about 7:30. I got forty-five minutes' sleep before I had to get up to get ready for work.

Today I functioned on nothing more than caffeine and pure will. And all I could think about was not how tired I was or the evening's canceled plans, but how glad I am that my sister's okay.

Thank you to the doctors that treated her.
Thank you to the anonymous strangers who stayed with her until the ambulance arrived.
Thank you God for watching over her.

Thank you.
