Dance of the Day - Landler
Oct. 20th, 2009 10:24 amThe Landler is an hold German and Austrian peasant dance that is widely considered to be the most direct ancestor of the waltz. You can see a lot of the precedent in this video, from patterns such as the schmetterling to the turning that would characterize the waltz to the hopping that would accompany early forms of the dance (and become more integrated in other round dances, such as the polka). At the same time, the dance is very clearly tied to other folk and set dances, such as the quadrille.
